A new species?

There was great excitement in Poutama this afternoon, when Luccas and his friends thought that they had found a new species of ant!

They did a fair amount of googling but could not determine what type of ant it was. That made them think that maybe this was a NEW species!

Mrs Lunn has a friend who has a Doctorate in Entomology. Mrs Lunn says that her friend is a 'Bug doctor'! So, Mrs Lunn sent her friend Dr Jess Costall, a message to see if she knew what it was that we had found.

and she did!

It is a flower longhorn beetle! Not an ant at all! The kids were excited to know what it was but were a bit disappointed that they didn't get to name their a new species!!!
